Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about OpposingPoint and how it works.
How the Site Works
OpposingPoint is an AI-powered platform designed to challenge your thinking by exposing biases, stress-testing arguments, and preparing you for opposition. We offer three main modes: Yes-Man Killer (for business ideas), Bias Hunter (for logical reasoning), and Steelman Simulator (for debate preparation).
You can try any mode once for free without creating an account. Simply click "Launch Now" on any mode card, enter your content, and receive AI analysis. To access unlimited analyses and save your session history, create a free account by clicking "Log In" in the top navigation.
Bias Hunter: Identifies cognitive biases and logical fallacies in your arguments. Choose from three analysis depths to strengthen your reasoning.
Steelman Simulator: Generates the strongest possible counter-arguments to your position. Practice defending your views across multiple debate rounds.
Yes! All authenticated users have their sessions automatically saved. Click "My Sessions" in the navigation menu to view your complete analysis history. You can review past results, print them, or use them as reference for improvement.
Absolutely. We use industry-standard encryption to protect your data. Your submissions are processed securely through OpenAI's API and stored in encrypted databases. We never sell your data or use it for training AI models. See our Privacy Policy for complete details.
How the AI Works
We use OpenAI's GPT-4 Turbo, one of the most advanced large language models available. GPT-4 has been trained on diverse internet text and can understand context, identify patterns, and generate nuanced responses across a wide range of topics.
Our AI provides sophisticated analysis based on patterns learned from vast amounts of text data. However, it's important to understand that AI analysis is a tool for reflection and improvement, not gospel truth. The AI can sometimes miss context, make errors, or reflect biases in its training data. Always apply critical thinking to the results.
No. OpenAI does not use data submitted through their API to train or improve their models. Your submissions are processed to generate your analysis and then discarded by OpenAI. We store your submissions and results only to provide you with session history.
The AI performs best on topics with substantial public discourse and established logical frameworks. It excels at analyzing business concepts, philosophical arguments, and common debate topics. For highly specialized technical fields or extremely niche subjects, results may be less detailed. The AI also has content policies that prevent analysis of harmful, illegal, or inappropriate content.
Prompt Methodology
Prompt engineering is the art and science of crafting instructions that guide AI to produce specific, high-quality outputs. At OpposingPoint, we've developed specialized prompts for each mode and difficulty level to ensure consistent, valuable analysis that truly challenges your thinking.
Beginner: The AI acts as a supportive coach, providing balanced feedback with encouragement. Good for initial exploration and building confidence.
Intermediate: The AI applies systematic skepticism, demanding evidence and challenging assumptions. Best for serious analysis and preparation.
Expert: The AI becomes ruthlessly analytical, exposing every flaw and weakness with maximum rigor. Ideal for high-stakes situations where you need brutal honesty.
"Steelmanning" is the opposite of "strawmanning." Instead of attacking a weak version of an argument, you engage with the strongest possible version. Our Steelman Simulator constructs the most intellectually honest and persuasive counter-arguments to your position, helping you prepare for the best opposition—not just the easiest to defeat.
While we don't publicly share our exact prompts (they're part of our competitive advantage), we're transparent about our methodology. Each prompt includes: (1) A specific persona for the AI to adopt, (2) Clear instructions on analysis depth and tone, (3) Structured output requirements for consistency, and (4) Domain-specific guidelines for each mode.
• Be specific: Provide context, details, and clear reasoning
• Choose the right difficulty: Start with Beginner if exploring, use Expert for final prep
• Iterate: Use the AI's feedback to refine your argument, then re-analyze
• Compare modes: Run the same content through different modes for comprehensive analysis
• Think critically: Question the AI's analysis—that's what we're teaching you to do!
